This is an intermediate level workshop.

In order to participate, you should have studied yoga in the Iyengar tradition continuously for a minimum of three years and have a regular yoga practice of pranayama and asana. You should be able to hold sirasana for five minutes, salamba sarvangasana for ten minutes, adho mukha vrksasana at the wall without assistance and be able to push up into urdhva dhanurasana without assistance. For those with an injury or special challenges, you will need to know how to work with this on your own.

This retreat will be limited to 60 students.

Studies with Paul Sherbow
Paul Sherbow will lead us through a series of sessions combining the Upanishads and The Yoga Sutras. We will look at the relationship between these texts with a focus on the Katha and Mundaka Upanishads and the study of the modifications of the mind, the Klesas and the ethical observances as laid out for us in The Yoga Sutras.

Options for accommodations and food

The Center offers two accommodation options: 1) two lodges that have a limited number of hotel-style rooms with a private bath (double occupancy) or 2) an unlimited number of cabins that sleep four people per cabin with two private baths. (Note that these cabins normally sleep 12 people and therefore are very spacious.) All the lodging is designed to make the most of its natural setting to promote a sense of community, well-being and relaxation. There are no single private rooms available.

There are no phones, televisions or maid service for the rooms. Please bring your own toiletries. Linens and towels will be provided. For cabin residents, it is advisable to bring a head lamp for late night reading, a sleeping bag for cool evenings or a mattress cover for greater comfort on the mattresses.

All meals are vegetarian. We do not offer vegan meals. If you have food restrictions, it is advisable to bring your own food. There are small refrigerators available in the two lodges that can be used.

The lodges have several kitchenettes and many beautiful common rooms with fireplaces that are available for all to share. Kayaks and canoes are available for paddling Otter Lake. Please refer to the green sidebar on this page for other local accommodations.
